I spent last summer near Sacramento and have similar pictures of fires along the American River. We had something like 1600 fires here in CA last year if not more. Looks like they came way too close to you!!!

I grew up in Pasadena and I love seeing your photos - things that remind me of SoCal. Even a smoke-filled sky can bring back memories of a simpler time in my life. Huh. Who woulda thunk?
